ABOUT US
WHO WE ARE
Groovy Homes is a Twin Cities company dedicated 100% to one thing: premium permanent architectural lighting for homes.
We’re not handymen doing lights on the side or a seasonal holiday crew. This is our craft. We design, install, and support permanent lighting systems that look built into your home, stay beautiful for years, and are safe and simple to use.
We started Groovy Homes because we saw the same problems over and over again: homeowners risking their necks on ladders, paying every year for temporary lights, or trying cheap strip lights that sag, fade, and fail. We believed there should be a better option: one professional, long-lasting system that you install once and enjoy for every holiday, game day, and family moment.
Today, our team handles everything in-house: on-site design, detailed measurements, color-matched track, clean wiring, and thorough testing before we leave your driveway. We operate like a real trade, not a gig. That means clear communication, protected property, and showing up when we say we will.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Permanent architectural lighting is a low-profile, professionally installed LED system mounted in color-matched track along your roofline or architectural features. A controller and power supply feed the lights, and you control everything through an app to choose colors, patterns, and schedules.
Seasonal lights are temporary strands that go up and down every year, while permanent architectural lights stay on the home year-round in a hidden track. Permanent systems are designed to last decades, handle Twin Cities weather, and work for every holiday and everyday curb appeal.
(For a deeper comparison, see our blog “Permanent Lights vs Seasonal Holiday Lights: Which Should Twin Cities Homeowners Choose?”)
Yes. Our systems are app-controlled, so you can switch from warm white to holiday or game-day colors, adjust brightness, and set schedules from your phone or tablet.
Most Twin Cities residential projects range from about $3,000 to $8,000, with many typical front-of-home installs falling in the $4,000 to $6,000 range depending on footage, height, and complexity. For more details go to: LINK BLOG
(For detailed examples and cost breakdowns, see our blog “How Much Does Permanent Architectural Lighting Cost In Minneapolis?”)
For homeowners who plan to stay in their home at least 5–7 years, permanent lighting often pays for itself compared to repeated seasonal installs, while also eliminating ladder risk and yearly hassle.
Yes, many homeowners choose to finance their project so they can enjoy the system now and spread payments over time. We can review current options during your design consultation.
Choose permanent lights if you want long-term convenience, safety, and total cost savings; choose seasonal lights if you only care about the lowest upfront price and don’t mind repeating the process every year.
(See our blog “Permanent Lights vs Seasonal Holiday Lights” for a full comparison table.)
DIY and Amazon kits are cheaper up front but typically have shorter lifespans, more visible wiring, and no local support when things fail, while professional permanent systems are built to look integrated with your home, handle harsh weather, and come with a warranty and service process.
(We break this down in detail in our blog “Permanent Architectural Lights vs Amazon DIY Strips.”)
Yes. Traditional holiday light companies usually install temporary strands each year, while we install a permanent, warrantied system designed as a long-term architectural upgrade.
Our systems use components rated for roughly 100,000 hours of use, which can translate to 30+ years at a few hours per night when installed and maintained properly.
(For more on lifespan and real-world factors, see our blog “How Long Do Permanent Outdoor Lights Last?”)
We offer a lifetime warranty on the core lighting system for as long as you own your home under normal use, plus optional protection for damage from storms, animals, or other trades through our protection plan.
When installed correctly, permanent lighting is mounted to fascia or soffit in a way that protects your roof system, with sealed penetrations and proper fasteners to avoid leaks and damage.
Our crews mount color-matched tracks along your roofline, run and protect wiring, install the power box and controller near an appropriate power source, then program and test the system before your walkthrough.
Most Twin Cities homes are completed in one to two days, depending on size, complexity, and weather, with more complex or larger homes sometimes requiring additional time.
Yes, we install in all seasons as long as conditions are safe for our crews and your home, adjusting schedules around severe cold, snow, ice, and high winds.
Most homeowners only need occasional cleaning of dirt, dust, or insects from the track area and a quick visual check from the ground; we handle deeper inspections as part of our protection plan.
(See our blog “Permanent Lighting Lifespan & Maintenance” for a simple maintenance overview.)
If a section looks dim, off-color, or dead, we schedule a service visit, diagnose the issue, replace the affected component, and restore the system, documenting the root cause for future prevention.
Our optional protection plan includes an annual system checkup and cleaning, priority scheduling (targeting service within 48 hours), coverage for common damage scenarios, and discounts on future add-ons.
Yes, our focus is on homeowners in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surrounding Twin Cities suburbs so we can respond quickly and stand behind every installation.
We specialize in permanent architectural lifetime lighting, use premium systems, follow strict installation standards, back our work with a lifetime warranty, and operate like a professional trade, not a seasonal side gig.
Most homeowners can get a design visit scheduled within a few days, and you’ll receive a clear, written quote after we measure your home and design your layout.
